. . . . .

The 11 Global Triathlon Series event taking place at Sun City this year on the weekend of November 8th and 9th is fast becoming, THE Olympic Distance Race to do in Africa. Dubbed as Africa’s toughest triathlon, the 11 Global Sun City event will once again play host to thousands of triathletes as they descend on the Pilanesberg for this year’s race.

The 11 Global Sun City Event has steadily grown in numbers over the last few years attracting well over 1000 competitors for what is an action packed sporting weekend held at the beautiful resort of Sun City. There is no better setting than the Pilanesberg in summer and come November 8th and 9th, Sun City will once again Rock with excitement as triathletes gather in their droves to compete against each other and themselves over a variety of distances and events.

Athletes will start arriving at Sun City from Friday the 7th onwards with an eye on spending the weekend at the Sun International Resort and surrounding areas.  Saturday 8th November will play host to the Sprint Triathlon starting at 7am and the Kids triathlon events starting from 9:30am onwards

Athletes will register on Friday afternoon and then Saturday  from 5am in the morning and will then tackle a 750m swim/20km cycle and 5km run. The swim course is breathtaking and will consist of a 1 loop 750m swim. The bike leg will comprise 1 loop of 10km out and 10km back. There is only 1 significant hill on the way back into the resort with the rest of the bike leg extremely flat and fast. The run section takes place on the golf course and by nature,  athletes will experience the heat during  the run with a finish line down at the pool side in front of the Cabana’s. This race truly has the appeal of racing in paradise and what better way to start off the weekend than with a short Sprint race on the Saturday. Once the parents are done with their event, the kids then spring into action with the first of their events kicking off at 9:30am. There are 3 age categories for the kids, ensuring that all have an opportunity to compete for fun and experience the thrill of completing a triathlon. Kids aged 6-8 will take on a 50m swim/1.5km bike and 1km run. Kids aged 9-11yrs will tackle a slightly longer 100m swim/5km cycle and 1.25km run. The bigger kids, aged 12yrs – 15yrs will then finish off the mornings racing activities with a race distance over 200m swim/10km cycle and 2.5km run. All these events are held within the confines of the Sun City golf course so kids are safe and the course is free from any traffic flow. Prize Giving will take place shortly after the last kids cross the finish line after which athletes will then relax in the surrounds of the resort and experience the great facilities that the Sun International Resort offer to all, both Hotel Residents and Day visitors

More athletes will then arrive on Saturday and Sunday for the 2nd part of the weekend, and the main event,  the 11 GLOBAL OLYMPIC DISTANCE Triathlon which takes place on Sunday 9th November at 7am. This race attracts a huge field of close to 800 competitors so athletes are advised to register early on Saturday or on Sunday morning from 5am onwards. The Olympic Distance race will follow the same course as the Sprint Race the day before, , swimmers will complete 1 big loop in the swim, followed by 2 loops of 20km on the bike, to then finish off with 1 loop of 10km during the run.  There are various batch starts for Pro Elite and Age Groupers alike so make sure you visit the website and are sure of your start time and batch category.

A unique addition to the weekend is the 11 Squared Event where competitors who race both the Sprint Race on the Saturday and the Olympic Distance race on the Sunday are eligible for some additional prize incentives. It’s a great concept as most athletes travel to the resort to spend a weekend away. What better way to get full value for money than entering both events on both days and throwing in a kid’s race and some entertainment on top of that

The race is set to attract some of the country’s finest triathletes along with their fellow age groupers who are all there to duel it out for podium spots or just to beat their previous year’s course PB.

11 Global look forward to welcoming their guests and competitors to this year’s event as it continues to grow in numbers and popularity, for more information, visit www.11global.com
